Branch County Mugshot Records
A booking photograph records appearance during a booking or corrections event. It is not a finding of guilt, proof of present danger, or evidence that the person remains confined. Release also does not make the source record vanish by itself. The photo and the custody event answer different questions, so pair the image with a jail release sheet, court disposition, or MDOC status.
Michigan FOIA applies to existing government records subject to exemptions. It does not force every sheriff to post photos online, and research found no rule requiring Branch County to maintain a public mugshot gallery. A photograph is not automatically guaranteed merely because an agency possesses it. Privacy, law-enforcement, juvenile, sealed-record, and other restrictions may require withholding or redaction.
The responsible approach is narrow. Identify the person and booking, ask for the nonexempt photo, and keep the result tied to its source and date. Juvenile records follow separate confidentiality rules and must not be forced through the adult public-record path.
A release sheet gives the photograph needed context. Useful fields include booking date and time, arresting agency, court number, release or transfer date and time, release reason, releasing authority, and receiving agency when releasable. Not every field must be disclosed. Ask for nonexempt portions and accept lawful redaction instead of assuming the full jail-management record is open. For a court outcome, obtain the signed order when the register of actions does not make the disposition clear. The photo should remain linked to that official packet rather than circulate as an isolated image.
Find Branch County Release Mugshots
Branch County has several possible photo channels, but they do not have equal scope or reliability. The Sheriff record is the local booking source. OTIS is the state corrections source. Other channels can preserve a photo without giving a complete custody trail.

A local jail photo and an MDOC photo are not interchangeable. The Sheriff photograph belongs to a Branch jail booking. An OTIS image is an MDOC identification artifact and may have been taken during state custody. A person may have both at different points.
Note: A photograph without a matching status date and source should never be treated as evidence of a recent Branch County release.
Request Branch County Booking Photos
The official Branch County FOIA page links a Sheriff-specific request form. Ask for a record, not for staff to conduct open-ended research. Include enough detail to identify the booking while omitting Social Security numbers and other needless sensitive information. Requesting the release record separately keeps the photo from being mistaken for a current custody record.
- Confirm the name, an identifying detail, and an approximate Branch County Jail booking date.
- Open the Sheriff-specific FOIA form.
- Request the nonexempt booking photograph and identify the booking number if known.
- Separately request release or transfer date and time, reason or code, releasing authority, and receiving agency when releasable.

Under MCL 15.235, a public body generally provides an initial response within five business days by granting, denying, partly granting, or issuing a permitted extension notice. That rule does not guarantee production within five days. Fees may be allowed under MCL 15.234, and Branch does not publish a flat booking-photo price.

Branch County Photo Request Form
The official Sheriff FOIA form is the matching manifest source for a local booking-photo request.
The form supplies the official request route. A requester should still describe the exact booking and photo sought instead of asking the Sheriff to compile a general list.
Branch County MDOC Photo Search
The Michigan OTIS search may show an electronic offender photograph for a current prisoner, parolee, probationer, or person within the public post-discharge window. Search by the unique MDOC number when possible. Otherwise use the current legal name and match date of birth and other identifiers before treating a result as the correct person.
Some electronic photos are unavailable because the person left before the image system existed or because no photograph was taken. OTIS generally keeps a public record for three years after the latest discharge from supervision. That display window is not proof that another government file was destroyed afterward.
An OTIS image does not cover a person whose confinement was only at Branch County Jail. Likewise, a Branch jail photo does not prove that the person entered Lakeland Correctional Facility. Read the OTIS status: `PAROLE` means release from prison into supervision, while `DISCHRG` means the end of MDOC jurisdiction for the sentence.

Branch County Mugshots in News
Local news may publish a photo when a case is newsworthy. Those decisions are selective and follow editorial archive practices, not the Sheriff’s full booking ledger. A dated story can help identify an event, but it cannot establish a complete released population or current custody.
Match any news photo to the correct person and case, then read the official disposition. All Branch adult criminal cases begin in 3-A District Court. A felony supported after preliminary examination can move to 15th Circuit Court. The MiCOURT register of actions can show bond, dismissal, plea, judgment, sentence, probation, warrants, and discharge entries, though it may not show the exact jail-door time.
An official Sheriff press release is still not a release record. It may describe an arrest, investigation, or inspection. Always separate agency news from the custodian’s recorded release or transfer event.
Branch County Mugshots After Set-Aside
Michigan has application-based and automatic conviction set-aside routes. Under MCL 780.622, an eligible set-aside generally changes how the conviction is treated, subject to statutory exceptions. Michigan State Police keeps a nonpublic record with limited authorized access. Eligibility, waiting periods, exclusions, and automatic processing depend on the current law and case.
A set-aside does not rewrite the historical moment when a person physically left jail. It also does not promise that every independently held image will disappear. Official systems, court records, and copied news or archive material may follow different legal duties and retention practices. Sealed court records require legal authority or a court order and are not ordinary FOIA records.
The Michigan State Police set-aside information is the official starting point. Ask the government source that displays an image about its correction or removal process and provide the relevant order. Do not use a paid removal vendor as a substitute for the official route.
Branch County Mugshot Use Limits
Michigan research did not identify a state law that requires every sheriff to publish mugshots or a Michigan-specific anti-pay-to-remove statute. Do not claim either rule exists. FOIA decisions are record-specific, and exemptions may apply. A denial should identify the legal basis and the available review or appeal route.
Dignity and context matter. A booking photograph reflects an accusation-era event. The court case may later show dismissal, acquittal, a set-aside, completion, or another outcome. Pair the image with the official legal disposition and the custody record rather than presenting it alone. Keep the source date visible.

Branch County Sheriff Photo Channels
The County links the Branch County Sheriff’s official Facebook page as an agency news channel. It can carry public-safety notices or a photo tied to a particular event. It is not a systematic booking-photo archive, current roster, or recent-release list. A missing post does not say anything about custody.
No Branch-specific sheriff app or confirmed Branch participation in the statewide sheriff app was established. Do not tell readers that an app holds photos merely because another Michigan county uses one. The absence of an official roster and confirmed app makes the Sheriff record request the dependable local photo route.
Private community pages and commercial booking archives may copy arrest images. They can use stale addresses, omit dispositions, and emphasize bookings rather than releases. They are a category to recognize, not an authority to endorse. No commercial mugshot publisher or removal service is linked here.
Address accuracy is a useful warning sign. The current official jail address is 379 Keith Wilhelm Drive in Coldwater, while some unofficial pages still circulate the former Marshall Road location. A source that has not updated a major facility fact may also carry stale photo captions, custody labels, or dates. Trace the image back to the Sheriff, MDOC, court, or dated official release before relying on its context.
